Placido Domingo Receives Bennett Recognition Award
Placido Domingo, the world-famous opera tenor and conductor, was the recipient of unique Bennett recognition award. The unique awards design "Eternal Spirit" was given to Domingo as the Washington D.C. Ambassador of the Arts award, which is sponsored by Guide for the Arts. Domingo is the General Director for the Washington National Opera (WNO), and was recognized for his efforts directing the WNO’s critically-acclaimed performances, as well as his work recognizing and supporting emerging artists through a variety of unique performances. Domingo is the first Washington D.C. recipient of this recognition award, which recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to the arts community in the city in which it is presented. The Ambassador for the Arts recognition awards program was started by Guide for the Arts in 2001, and has since honored such luminaries as composer John Williams, Senator Edward Kennedy, and the Institute of Contemporary Art’s director Jill Medvedow. The Guide for the Arts is a ground-breaking arts publication for patrons, benefactors, artists and administrators. Bennett Awards has provided multiple unique awards for this recognition awards program.
