Shell Presents Bennett Custom Awards for Eco-marathon Competition

Shell commissioned a set of new custom awards from Bennett Awards for its 2020 Eco-maration competition. The Shell Eco-marathon is a global academic challenge focsed on energy optimization. In a typical year’s competition, eams of students from both high schools and universities deisgn and build ultra energy-efficient vehicles. These vehicles are then taken out to the track for a live challenge.

Typically, two different competitions are conducted. The first is the Shell Eco-marathon Mileage Challenge, where teams see who can complete a set route around a track using the least amount of energy. The second is the Shell Eco-marathon Drivers’ World Championship, where each vehicle is given a specific amount of energy and must be the first car to cross the finish line. There are two classes of vehicles teams can choose from: Prototype and UrbanConcept. The Prototype competition features highly-aerodynamic , futuristic vehicles, while the UrbanConcept competition features economical and innovative vehicles that resemble regular cars on the road.

This year, in light of the pandemic, Shell conducted a virtual competition rather than their regular live competition. In addition to the competitions traditionally held, and described above, this year the Shell Eco-marathan also created new Off-track Awards. The Off-Track Awards showcase the wide range of skills and talents that have gone into each Shell Eco-marathon project, recognising excellence and outstanding achievements teams have made off the track.

For the traditional on-track awards, Bennett Awards produced the same unique awards that were used in last year’s competition. These recognition awards are based on two stylistic car sculptures, one representing the Prototype category, and one representing the Urban Concept category. These sculpture awards were produced from stainless steel and featured a patina finish. They were mounted on black hardwood bases.

For the Off-track Awards, Bennett Awards created new, unique awards utilizing both acrylic aluminum. These awards have a rectangular brushed aluminum base and obelisk with a circular acrylic disk. The aluminum obelisk has black engraving, whie the disk has digitally printed artwork. These awards stand approximately 7” tall.
