U.S. Soccer Commissions Bennett Awards for 2020 SheBelieves Cup
Bennett Awards worked with U.S. Soccer to create a new custom award for the 2020 SheBelieves Cup. The SheBelieves Cup is a premier invitational women's association soccer tournament held in the United States each year. The tournament showcases some of the top women’s national soccer teams in the world.
The U.S. Women’s National Team won the 2020 competition with a 3-0 record and 9 total points. They secured the championship with a 3-1 win over Japan in the final match, taking advantage of goals from Megan Rapinoe, Christen Press and Lindsey Horan. The final match was played March 12, 2020, before a sell-out of 19,096 fans in Frisco, Texas.
This was the third time the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) has won the competition since its inception in 2016. Spain finished second with 6 points, England third with 3 points, and Japan came in fourth.
For this tournament, Bennett Awards worked with U.S. Soccer to create a custom bronze sculpture award in the shape of a cup. This unique custom design is based on a three-dimensional representation of the event logo. The bottom of the sculpture features curved crested ridges that join midway to form a smooth cylindrical cup. A recessed soccer ball is sculpted into the top of the cup. The sculpture was cast in bronze, and then nickel plated. A sublimated plate with crests of the participating teams was created for the bottom of the cup. The sculpture stands 19.5” tall.
