Chicago Marathon Presents Custom Bennett Awards
The Chicago Marathon presented its 2019 champions with unique custom awards created by Bennett Awards. The Chicago Marathon, held every October, is one of the six World Marathon Majors, and the the fourth-largest race by number of finishers worldwide. The 2019 race, held October 13, 2019, was the 42nd annual running of the event.
For the champion’s trophies, Bennett Awards created new, unique custom awards in the shape of a disk. The disks were created from plexiglass, with a bevel on the outer rim. Colored design elements, including stripes, stars, the event logo and the award designation were screen printed on the face of the plexiglass. Custom stands were also created for each disk in machined black acrylic.
Both champions were from Kenya. The men’s champion was Lawrence Cherono. The female champion was Brigid Kosgei, who set a new women’s marathon world record. Her unofficial time of 2 hours, 14 minutes and 4 seconds beat Paula Radcliffe's record, set at the 2003 London Marathon, by 81 seconds. She finished almost seven minutes before the second-place finisher.
