Bennett Custom Award Presented at Principal Charity Classic PGA Tournament
For the seventh straight year, the Principal Charity Classic presented by Wells Fargo, the top charitable contribution-generating golf tournament on the PGA Champions Tour, used a custom recognition award from Bennett Awards to present to their tournament champion.
The golf tournament has utilized two unique Bennett custom award designs. The first trophy, which was used from 2009 through 2012, featured flowing abstract lines and planes that portrayed movement, flight and upward trajectory – representative of the flight of a golf ball. In 2013 the tournament commissioned a new, unique custom design for the trophy. This new design was based on the Envision Tower recognition award with a giant golf ball attached to the top of the sculpture. This sculpture award was then mounted on a two-tier base. The lower portion of the base was created from hardwood, and included an engraved plate with the tournament championship information. The upper tier of the base was a circular marble base with customized engraving of the Wakonda Club logo.
As with the last two years, the 2015 tournament was held at the Wakonda Club in Des Moines, Iowa. This year’s tournament was held June 4-7, 2015. The tournament was won by Mark Calcavecchia, who closed out a one stroke victory over Joe Durant and Brian Henninger. This was Calcavecchia’s third career Champion Tour title.
