Space Foundation "Space Shuttle" Awards
The Space Foundation commissioned Bennett Awards to produce custom awards commemorating the 30th anniversary, and final year, of the Space Shuttle program. Bennett Awards artist Terrie Bennett created an incredible, breathtaking design featuring a 36” image of a space shuttle in flight. The shuttle is supported by 5 contrails, each representing one of the 5 American space shuttles: Columbia, Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis, and Endeavor. These unique recognition awards were cast in bronze, and mounted on a black marble base engraved the with Space Foundation logo.
Two custom awards were produced for permanent displays. One will be displayed at NASA headquarters, while the other will be displayed at the Space Foundation headquarters. These unique awards were unveiled on April 12, 2011, at a special award ceremony held during the 27th National Space Symposium in Colorado Springs. The Space Foundation is a nonprofit organization that supports the American space industry through information and education programs. The foundation helps advance space-related endeavors to inspire, enable and propel humanity.
