Sandra Brown "ELF" Awards
A custom Bennett Award design has been created as part of an annual award and endowed scholarship honoring NY Times bestselling author Sandra Brown. The custom award, called the Sandra Brown Excellence in Literary Fiction (ELF) Award, was established by Sandra Brown’s husband, the award-winning documentarian Michael Brown. The Bennett-designed sculpture award, along with a $50,000 scholarship, will be presented each year to a student from Texas Christian University.
The custom award, which depicts a whimsical elf standing next to a stack of books, was designed as a collaborative effort between Bennett Awards artist Keith Shannon and Michael Brown. The sculpture award and endowed scholarship were unveiled to Sandra Brown at a surprise presentation held February 20, 2008. The presentation was made by the event’s master of ceremonies, former CBS news anchor Bob Schieffer, and also featured a video greeting from George W. and Barbara Bush. During the event, Sandra Brown, who has written 56 New York Times bestsellers, was also presented with an honorary doctorate degree to Texas Christian University by TCU Chancellor Victor Boschini.
