Discovery Communications "Megalodon Tooth" Display Award

$0.00

Bennett Awards recently completed the creation of a new, totally unique custom award for Discovery Communications, the world’s #1 nonfiction media company. This award was created as a retirement gift for Discovery Communication’s founder and former chairman, John Hendricks.

Discovery Communications is the world's #1 pay-TV programmer, reaching more than two billion cumulative subscribers, and providing nearly 200 worldwide TV networks, including Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, and Science.

For this retirement gift, Bennett Awards created a custom fabricated award centered around a fossilized Megalodon tooth, estimated to be about 12 million years old. The Megalodon (from the species C. megalodon, meaning “big tooth” in ancient Greek) was a giant shark that ruled the seas during the Neogene period, and is regarded as one of the largest and most powerful predators in history.

Discovery Communications provided Bennett Awards with the Megalodon tooth, which measured approximately 6” tall. Bennett Awards created the remainder of the award (serving as a custom display box) around this tooth, including an engraved marble base, wrought iron rods that supported the tooth in an upright position, and a Lexan (bullet-proof plexiglass) cover that could be easily removed for a viewer to hold and inspect the tooth.

The marble base featured customized engraving on both its front and back. The front engraving included the Discovery Communications logo and details about the Megalodon tooth. The back engraving included a quote from Mr. Hendricks and a note of thanks from the company.

Discovery Communications is the world’s #1 pay-TV programmer reaching 2.7 billion cumulative subscribers in more than 220 countries and territories. Discovery is dedicated to satisfying curiosity, engaging and entertaining viewers with high-quality content on worldwide television networks, led by Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, Investigation Discovery and Science, as well as U.S. joint venture network OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. Discovery also controls Eurosport International, a premier sports entertainment group, including six pay-TV network brands across Europe and Asia. Discovery also is a leading provider of educational products and services to schools, including an award-winning series of K-12 digital textbooks, through Discovery Education, and a digital leader with a diversified online portfolio, including Discovery Digital Networks.
