SIGGRAPH Recognition Awards
SIGGRAPH, the world’s premier conference on computer graphics and interactive techniques, commissioned Bennett Awards to create a new, unique custom award design for its Computer Animation Festival. Each year, SIGGRAPH’s Computer Animation Festival presents the world’s most innovative, accomplished and amazing creators of digital gaming, film, and video. A key part of this festival is the presentation of three prestigious awards: 1) the Best in Show Award; 2) the Jury Award; and 3) the Best Student Project Award. Award winners are chosen by an expert panel of jury members. This year more than 500 submissions were received.
For 2013, SIGGRAPH wanted to create a new, unique custom trophy design for these awards. SIGGRAPH commissioned Bennett Awards to create this design, then produce the resulting recognition trophies. Bennett Awards developed a new, custom 3D sculpture design based on the SIGGRAPH logo. The actual trophies based on this design stand approximately 7” tall. They are cast in pewter, and feature a brushed pewter finish. The achievement sculptures are mounted on a 2” tall black marble base that features the SIGGRAPH conference logo and logotype, the award name, and the award recipient name.
The 2013 winners of these custom recognition trophies were:
- Best in Show Award: A la Francaise
- Jury Award: Lost Senses
- Best Student Project: Rollin’ Safari
These achievement trophies were presented to recipients at the SIGGRAPH 2013 conference, held July 21-25 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. This was the conference’s 40th anniversary, and it hosted over 17,000 artists, research scientists, gaming experts, developers, filmmakers, students, and academics from over 77 countries around the globe.
Each year, SIGGRAPH brings thousands of computer graphics and interactive technology professionals from five continents together for the industry's most respected technical and creative programs focusing on research, science, art, animation, music, gaming, interactivity, education, and the web. Programs include industry panels, keynote speeches, exhibitions, the presentation of research papers, and showcases of images and animations. Past conferences have featured the first animated shorts from both Pixar and LucasFilm’s John Lasseter. More information on SIGGRAPH can be found at www.siggraph.org.
