ASME 100th Anniversary Award
The National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspections (National Board) commissioned Bennett Awards to create a new custom award for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) in recognition of the 100th anniversary of the ASME Boiler and Vessel Pressure Code. This code is critically important, as it sets manufacturing standards for all pressure equipment used for residential, commercial, and industrial applications.
This custom award was based on a sculpture of an aeolipile, which was the first working steam engine, the invention of which is generally thought to be around the 1st century AD.
This sculpture award was fabricated out of aluminum, and then high-polished and silver-plated. The sculpture was mounted on a round black marble base with personalized, silver-fill engraving on the top of the base containing both the ASME and National Board logos, the purpose of the award, and the date of presentation. The completed award weighed approximately 70 pounds.
The National Board presented this custom recognition award to the ASME at the National Board/ASME General Meeting Banquet, held May 14, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue in Seattle, WA.
