Bennett Awards Creates Custom Awards for Shell Eco Competition
Bennett Awards created a set of new, uique custom awards for the Shell Eco-marathon Challenge. The Shell Eco-marathon is one of the world’s leading energy-efficiency competition programs for students. Teams of high school and university students design and build ultra-energy-efficient vehicles, and then take them out on the track for the challenge.
There are two competitions held as part of the challenge. The first is the Shell Eco-marathon Mileage Challenge, where teams see who can complete a valid track route using the least amount of energy. The second is the Shell Eco-marathon Drivers’ World Championship, where each vehicle is given an allotted amount of energy and must be the first car to cross the finish line, without running out of energy.
For each competition, there are two classes of vehicles teams can choose from: Prototype and UrbanConcept. Prototype teams feature futuristic and highly-aerodynamic vehicles, while UrbanConcept teams showcase economical and innovative vehicles that resemble regular cars on the road.
For both vehicle categories, teams can choose to compete in one category across three differnet energy sources: internal combustion, hydrogen fuel cell, and battery electric. Awards are also given to the best overall design in each category.
Shell Eco-marathon competitions are held in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Bennett Awards worked with Shell to create a new custom award design for the winners of the Americas challenge, and then producd custom awards based on this design.
Bennett Awards created two modern, stylistic car sculptures – one for each class of car (Prototype and UrbanConcept), inspired by that particular category. These sculpture awards were produced from stainless steel and featured a patina finish. They were mounted on black hardwood bases. The Prototype car sculpture measured approximately 7"w x 2"d x 2"h, while the UrbanConcept sculpture stood approximately 5.25"w x 2.5"d x 2.5"h.
The 2019 Americas competition was held at the Sonoma Raceway on April 3-6, 2019.
