Facebook Commissions New Custom Awards from Bennett Awards

Facebook, the social media giant, commissioned a new, unique custom award design from Bennett Awards for an event they recently established: The Facebook Half Marathon. The Facebook Half Marathon will be an annual event for Facebook staffers that helps commemorate the history of Facebook. The race course goes through many of the Palo Alto and Menlo Park sites where Facebook has had company offices, and culminates at Facebook’s new corporate campus in Menlo Park.

This year (2012) was the inaugural year for this event, which featured approximately 177 participants, including Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Each participant paid $50 to enter the event, and half of the proceeds were donated to the Eastside Preparatory School in East Palo Alto.

Facebook collaborated with Bennett Awards to create a new custom perpetual trophy for this event. This perpetual recognition trophy will be an award that sits in Facebook’s trophy case at its corporate headquarters. Each year the name of the men’s and women’s half marathon winners will be added to the award.

The distinctive custom design for this perpetual achievement trophy was conceived by Facebook. It consists of a 3D “M” cut in half along a vanishing point to symbolize a half marathon. Along the long side of the trophy, and extending to the upper long edge, is etched the phrase “1/2 MARATHON”. The Facebook logo and marathon course locations (Palo Alto and Menlo Park) are also etched in the upper long edge. This custom award was cast in pewter, and features a high polished pewter finish. A closer view of this corporate trophy can be seen by clicking the following link: "Facebook Half Marathon Custom Awards".

This perpetual recognition award was “presented” to the 2012 half marathon winners (Julia Metcalfe and Ed Baker) by Jared Morgenstern at the Friday corporate Q&A sessions held by Mark Zuckerberg each Friday.

In addition to the custom perpetual trophy, Bennett Awards also created individual custom medallions based on the same design. These custom medallions are given to the 1st through 3rd place winners in various categories of the event.

This is the second custom awards design that Bennett Awards has created for Facebook. In 2011, Bennett Awards also created the "Facebook Hacker Cup", a perpetual recognition award for a worldwide programming contest.

Founded in 2004, Facebook’s mission is to make the world more open and connected. People use Facebook to stay connected with friends and family, to discover what’s going on in the world, and to share and express what matters to them.
