Bennett Custom Award Selected for 2013 Nike International Friendlies

For the 4th straight year, Nike and the US Soccer Federation chose a custom trophy created by Bennett Awards to crown the champion of the Nike International Friendlies soccer tournament. The Nike International Friendlies is an international soccer tournament involving Under-17 Men’s National Teams from four different countries. This year, the teams participating in the competition were the U.S., Brazil, England, and defending champion Portugal.

To decide the champion, these four national teams competed in a round-robin tournament. The U.S. team earned its second title in three years by defeating Brazil 4-1 in the tournament’s final match. The U.S. went 2-1-0 and earned 6 points over the course of the competition. The U.S. also captured the major individual honors, including tournament MVP (Christian Pulisic), the Golden Boot award (Haji Wright), and the Golden Glove award (Kevin Silva).

The 2013 edition of this tournament, the 11th in the series, was held December 9-15, 2013, at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Florida. All of the matches were streamed live on ussoccer.com.

In recognition of their victory, the U.S. champions were presented with a custom trophy originally designed by Bennett Awards in 2010. This unique trophy utilizes a stylized cup that employs geometric shapes, aggressive stylizing, and distinctive patterns to give it a creative, artistic style, and distinguish it from the standard trophies commonly used at sports competitions. This recognition trophy is cast in pewter, and then plated with both gold and silver plating. The cup features a raised, curving channel that flows through the design. The main planes of the trophy are gold-plated, while the curving channel is silver-plated. The sculpture trophy is 18” tall, and is mounted on a two-tier black marble base. One side of the base features a personalized engraved plate with the champion’s moniker, while the other side of the base is engraved with the Nike logo and the names of the participating teams.
