NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets Commission Bennett Custom Award

The Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League (NHL) engaged Bennett Awards to create a new custom trophy for an important recognition award they recently presented. The Blue Jackets commissioned this custom achievement award to honor their play-by-play radio announcer, George Matthews, in recognition of him announcing his 1,000th NHL game. Matthews reached this milestone on Saturday, February 16, 2013, while calling the match between the Blue Jackets and the Phoenix Coyotes. This match was held in Phoenix’s Jobing.com Arena.

For this achievement trophy, Bennett Awards created a unique bronze sculpture award in the shape of a microphone. The Columbus Blue Jacket logo was sculpted into the top of the microphone. The sculpture was mounted on a large black marble base that featured personalized gold-fill engraving of the 1,000 game milestone, the recipient name, and the Columbus Blue Jacket logo.

Matthews was presented with this unique custom trophy at a special pre-game recognition ceremony held Tuesday, February 26, before the Blue Jacket’s match with the Dallas Stars, held at Nationwide Arena in Columbus. The trophy was presented to Matthews by John Davidson, the President of the Columbus Blue Jacket organization.
